Turkey journalists freed from prison after court ruling

Two Turkish journalists Can Dundar and Erdem Gul, who were charged with revealing state secrets have been freed from prison. The duo who worked for the newspaper Cumhuriyet, were detained in November over a report alleging that the Turkish government tried to ship arms to Islamists in Syria. Both journalist had been jailed at Silivri jail on the outskirts of Istanbul.

The Turkey's constitutional court challenged the charges, saying they violated freedom of the press, they won the case and were both released early on Friday after three months in jail.
Large crowds chanting support met them outside prison on their release.
Mr Dundar, the paper's editor-in-chief, and Mr Gul, its Ankara bureau chief, spent 92 days in prison and had been due to go on trial on 25 March. He said:
"This is a trial of press freedom," Mr Dundar said. "We got out but more than 30 colleagues are still in prison. I hope that this ruling will pave way for their freedom as well."
"We would continue to fight for press freedom until this concentration camp that you see behind me becomes a museum".
The court, which ruled on Thursday agreed that their "rights to personal liberty and security had been violated and that the decision was overwhelmingly approved with 12 votes for and three against, Turkish media reports said.

10 year old girl dies saving 2 toddlers from runaway SUV

10-year-old California girl Kiera Larsen, died while saving two toddlers from a rolling vehicle. The 3 children were playing on Monday evening around 5pm, when the 10 year old noticed an SUV rolling in reverse towards them and pushed the two babies, ages 1 and 2, away from the SUV, police in Lakeside said.

The vehicle struck the 10-year-old and pushed her through a fence, KGTV reported. She was immediately rushed to the to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Neighbours said the children were playing in their yard before the vehiclre rolled towards them.

Officials didn’t explain why the SUV, a 1999 Mercedes-Benz, started rolling in reverse down the driveway.
“She is truly a hero. She will forever be my kids’ guardian angel,” said Alissa Jenkins, who is the mother of one-year-old Adison and two-year-old Emma, the girls Kiera had saved.
“She saved both my daughters’ lives. These are my two kids that I have and both of them could’ve been gone in an instant and she stepped in and took over and did what she knows best to do—and that’s to protect those around her.”
Jenkins and fiance Jonathan Gusich said they’ll never be able to repay her.
“She was a big sister to them. She was always looking out for them and apparently she gave her life for my kids,” Gusich told FOX5. “I don’t know how to repay them, repay her. She must have been the guardian angel yesterday and they’re here because of her.”
A GoFundMe account was set up for Kiera’s family, and more than $53,000 has been raised as at this morning.

A CHP officer on the scene also described her as a hero.
“A child died heroically, I mean if you think about it, she sacrificed herself for another small child,”
Adding that police are going to do an inspection on the vehicle, find out why this happened, find out if there was some sort of malfunction on the vehicle and go from there.

so it was a lit evening in ODLT 2 in Obafemi Awolowo University around 10:30pm at night when a make up artiste came to announce in the class where people were reading. the MUA popularly known as Glamour ville announced that he and his friends wanted to do a little performance because their other friend wanted to propose to his girlfriend ( either marriage or reconciliation)- the whole class was surprised to hear this and waited to see.

there was a round of kung fu choreography, well rehearsed as there were rhyming kicks and falls to the ground. The boyfriend came in after the round of performance which was all chinese style to bow to the performance, His name Raphael in zoo part 3 and went gently to where his girlfriend was reading and springed the surprise kneeling down and muttering some inaudible words.

The flushed girlfriend covered her face, and hugged Raphael and kissed in a rave of photographs, awws and rounds of applause.

Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) recovered at a building site in Enugu by Anti Bomb Unit

The statement issued by the Command yesterday, February 14 below:
"The Enugu state command of the Nigeria Police Force through its operatives of the Explosive Ordinance Department also known as Anti Bomb Unit have recovered successfully from a building site an unexploded ordinance otherwise known as UXO being part of the civil war left overs buried on the ground in the war affected areas.
The object was recovered from the building site located around N.T.A Hostel axis of ogui in Enugu on 13/2/16 in the afternoon following its discovery by the builders as they were working at the site.It was further gathered that the builders on sighting the suspected object,promptly alerted the state police command operatives who also arrived promptly at the scene for the evacuation of the unexploded ordinance.
Meanwhile,area has been rendered safe by the Explosive Ordinance Department operatives as builders are busy doing their construction at the site. It could be recalled that the state police command through its public Relations Department have been sensitizing members of the public on the need not to tamper with UXO when found either during farming,road and building constructions amongst others but to promptly alert the state command operatives or the nearest police station,so that operatives can come and evacuate the object and render the area very safe with their equipments."

All of the gals  Kim, 35, Kourtney, 36, and Khloe, were filming Kris’s 60th birthday music video and the whole time Kylie was a little off. When they ask her what’s going on, she keeps saying, “just stuff with T.”

Kendall’s 20th birthday party was coming up and they were all discussing who was going to attend, and Kendall said she invited Tyga. “I invited Tyga before Kylie and Tyga had their issue,” Kendall said.
That was the complete last straw and finally, Kylie completely breaks down crying and runs off the set and says she doesn’t want to be on camera anymore. Kendall just doesn’t understand why she doesn’t just cut the cord for good after all their issues:
“She’s really vague when it comes to Tyga,” Kendall explains. Kendall looked Kylie in the eyes and said, “I don’t think you actually want to even experience things. Whoah, tough love can be harsh"
All of the girls were on Kendall’s side though. Khloe said it straight-forward,
“We’re all going through things but lets tough it out for one hour to make Mom happy.” We are totally on their side, but we did feel terrible when Kylie was hysterically crying and said, I feel really bad that this is the only day we can all meet to do the video, but I’m just really upset right now.”
Kendall’s birthday party  at the Nice Guy was full of tension and was super awkward, of course. Before it even started, Kylie said,
“I just hope that we can make it through the night without drama.” Everyone was freaking out, even Khloe, who said, “It’s definitely awkward to have Kylie and Tyga both here so we’re all just watching.”
The whole time at Kendall’s party, everyone is trying to cheer Kylie up but she’s just not having it. Until Tyga runs up to her and puts his arm around her and all of a sudden everything is just peachy — how insane is that?
Kendall wasn’t even surprised though,
“I totally knew they’d be fine when they saw each other, I knew they’d get back together. That always happens. It just is what it is,” she said.

Man United may appoint Jose Mourinho before the end of the season

The Manchester United board are reportedly considering hiring Jose Mourinho by the end of this month in a desperate bid to salvage the club’s season. This decision was reportedly taken after Red Devils lost 2-1 to Sunderland on Saturday leaving them six points adrift of the top four.

The Sun reports that Chelsea  former boss Mourinho may replace Van Gaal in time for United's next league game at home to Arsenal on February 28,  and though he’d prefer to take up the hotseat in the summer, United officials are considering bringing him in this month in a desperate bid to save the side’s faltering campaign.

They believe they will lose nothing by bringing in Mourinho before the end of the season and axing Van Gaal earlier than planned.

Van Gaal after Saturday's defeat admitted the club’s best chance of re-entering the Champions League is to win the Europa League trophy but they’re showing few signs of being able to compete against the other teams in the league. It is added that Van Gaal has taken a short-term rent on a new pad in Manchester, which would allow him to move out at any time.

Baby abandoned inside Indomie carton in Festac town

baby who was abandoned in an Indomie carton was rescued by the police at Festac Town and a leader of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) over the weekend. According to Tribune, the baby was found by an OPC leader in Amuwo Odofin, simply identified as Suleiman Badmus, who handed her over to the police.

Olabisi, younger sister to the OPC leader, who rescued the baby, said;
“The baby was found close to where I sell herbs at Amuwo-Odofin. One of the OPC members heard the baby’s cries and called my brother, Badmus. The baby was inside a carton. When I saw her, I was shocked. I felt whoever abandoned her must be crazy. Mosquitoes had bitten her face. Why would any woman abandon her baby after she had carried the pregnancy for nine months?"

Busted! Some of Buhari’s ministers are tax evaders

Contrary to the impression created by some of the ministers serving under the current administration as men of impeccable character, there are indications that a number of them may not be completely free of blemish after all, especially with regards to their civic responsibilities in the area of taxes.
Ripples can authoritatively report that the tax profile of some of the ministers save for a few are less than impressive.

The devil is in the detail
Ripples investigation revealed that the annual tax paid by one of the Ministers in charge of telcos when he appeared before the Senate for clearance last year was a paltry N5, 000.
When confronted with this fact at the weekend, the minister, who had held various appointments in Oyo state and the federal level before contesting for governorship in 2011, declared almost rather unsurely that his tax payment must have been up to N25, 000.
“N5, 000? I think I must have paid up to N25, 000 tax” he said noncommittally when asked to clarify whether it is true that all the taxes he paid just before the Senate screening was N5,000.
In documents presented to the Senate and security agencies by the Minister himself shortly before the pre-appointment screening exercise last year, he had an Oyo State Government Revenue receipt with number 4014086367 as evidence of tax payment.
The receipt showed that he paid N5,000 at a commercial bank in Agodi, Ibadan on 27th March, 2014.

The tax profiles of the minister in charge of external affairs is also not so impressive, as his Income Tax Clearance Certificate issued by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on December 31st 2015 indicates that he earned N59, 754, 551 and paid N50, 000 tax in 2014.
The wellness minister’s tax clearance certificate obtained from the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue indicates that for 2012, 2013 and 2014, the Minister earned a total of N473, 750, N1, 158, 334 and N1, 166, 666 respectively while his taxes for the corresponding years were N72,000, N73, 000 and N74, 000.

The records of the current minister, whose office is in charge of dispensing justice shows a Kano State Board of Internal Revenue Tax certificate dated 31st December, 2014, indicating also that in 2011, 2012 and 2013, he earned N296, 250, N840, 909 and N1, 050, 000 respectively, out of which he paid N40, 000 annually in 2011 and 2012 while he paid N60, 000 tax in 2013.

Shining examples
Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, would easily rank as one of Nigeria’s top income tax payers as an official document from Exxon Mobil detailing his tax remittance for 2012, 2013 and 2014 shows.
On incomes of N93.1 million, N137. 3 million and N105. 7 million, Kachikwu, who was Vice chairman/Executive Director before retiring on August 4, 2015, paid taxes of N14. 5 million, N22. 3 million and N15. 9 million.

Like Kachikwu, equally impressive are the tax records of all the women in Buhari’s cabinet as they all paid their taxes promptly unlike many of their male counterparts who rushed to get tax clearance certificates on the same date – December 31, 2014.

Except for the Minister of Environment, Hajia Amina Mohammed, who worked and paid her tax abroad, all the female ministers in Buhari’s administration have impeccable and timely tax records in Nigeria prior to assumption of duty as ministers.

Among the tax compliant women ministers is the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Hajia Aisha Abubakar. She had an FIRS tax clearance indicating that on incomes of N3, 429, 880, N3, 622, 100 and N4,415, 624 received in 2012, 2013 and 2014, she paid N420, 654, N420, 000 and N552, 279 as annual taxes respectively.

Her counterpart, the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Hajia Zainab Ahmed, who was the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), had an FIRS tax clearance in which she declared earnings of N24. 2million, N22. 2 million and N34. 6 million in 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively while she paid N2. 6 million, N2. 4 million and N2. 6 million as annual taxes during the corresponding period.

Buhari orders sack of DG's of NTA, VON, FRCN, NOA, others

President Buhari has approved the sack of the heads of the six information-related parastatals under the ministry of information and culture. According to a statement shared on the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture's Facebook wall, Lai Mohammed, who is the Minister of information and culture announced their sack at a meeting he held with the chief executives. The statement reads;


"The Federal Government has disengaged the heads of the six information-related parastatals under the Ministry of Information and Culture. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the disengagement during a meeting he held with the Chief Executives of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Monday . The Minister directed the disengaged Chief Executives to hand over to the most senior officials in their various establishments. He thanked them for their service to the nation and wished them the best of luck in their future endeavours. The affected Chief Executives are the Directors-General of NTA, Mr. Sola Omole, FRCN (Mr. Ladan Salihu), VON (Mr Sam Worlu), NOA (Mr. Mike Omeri), NBC (Mr. Emeka Mba) and the Managing Director of NAN (Mr. Ima Niboro).

Daniel Craig quits as James Bond after signing up for new American TV series

The 47 year old actor who last year said he would rather kill himself than do another James Bond movie just signed a deal for a new American television series called Purity. The series will run for 20 episodes apiece.

Just before the movie Spectr was released last year Daniel had problems initially with the script. He was injured on the set and needed knee surgery. He had to do a lot of  re-shoots. This affected Craig a lot as the movie shoot was a very difficult one.

Spectre bosses were unimpressed with Craig's attitude during the shoot last year and they constantly told him. 

Grey's Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo was also unimpressed with his attitude, She wrote on Twitter:
"This dude needs a reality check, after hearing about his remark. Craig is pretentious and thinks he's better than Bond, that it doesn't give him the creative range he needs, plus he hasn't had a big hit movie outside of the franchise, and he blames that on Bond".

The decision of Craig quitting James bond isn't so surprising as he said in an interview last year that  he'd rather die than do another James Bond movie:

"I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists, We’re done. All I want to do is move on".


Possible replacement for Craig have been listed out, they include Idris Elba, Damien Lewis and Tom Hardy.

$2.1bn arms deal probe: EFCC arrests ex-military intelligence chief, Gen. Wiwa

As the probe into the $2.1 billion arms deal continues, the Economic and Fi­nancial Crimes Com­mission (EFCC), over the weekend arrested a former Director of Mili­tary Intelligence (DMI), Ma­jor General Wiwa, younger brother to late Ken Saro Wiwa, former Ogoni human rights activist.


According to The Sun, General Wiwa who is currently the Deputy Commandant at the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi, has been transferred to Abuja, where he is being detained and will be questioned on his involvement in the misappropriation of the arms procurement fund.

Wiwa served in the office of the National Security Adviser when late General Patrick Azazi served as NSA. He remained in office during Col. Sambo Dasuki’s tenure from where he was appointed Direc­tor of Military Intelligence when Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika became the Chief of Army staff, a position he retained under the tenure of General Kenneth Minimah.

Ehud Olmert,ex-Israeli Prime Minister begins jail sentence

Former Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, has begun serving his prison sentence. He's made history as the first former head of government in Israel to go to prison. The 70-year-old was convicted in March 2014 of accepting bribes to promote a real-estate project in Jerusalem when he was mayor of Jerusalem and trade minister, years before he became prime minister in 2006.

He will enter Ma’asiyahu prison near Tel Aviv on Monday to start serving a 19-month sentence for bribery and obstruction of justice.

Hours before entering the prison, Olmert released a video message saying he doesn't agree with the bribery charges he is convicted of.
"When I was prime minister, I was given the highest responsibility of safeguarding the security of the citizens of Israel and today it is I who is about to be locked up behind bars," Olmert said in a video message, calling the experience "painful and strange". He admitted to having "made mistakes," but said these were "not criminal," and denied having taken bribes. "Life is offering me today no simple test. I go toward it with great sadness," he said.

90yr old woman who donated her life savings to Buhari presidential campaign dies

Hajia Fadimatu Mai Talle Tara, the 90 year old woman who donated her N1 million savings to the Buhari presidential campaign organization last year has died. She died this morning at her home.


She was a popular food vendor in Koko, Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State. She was a widow and is survived by 15 children and 15 grandchildren. May her soul rest in peace, Amen.

Update on Osun bank robbery: 5 armed robbers killed, four arrested, N7m cash recovered

The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers who robbed three commercial banks in Ikirun town in the state last Friday. ‎ Items recovered from the suspects include over seven million Naira cash, three AK 47 rifles, 124 ammunition, one assault rifle with 12 rounds of live ammunition and a vehicle.


Parading them before newsmen, the State Commissioner of Police, Kola Shodipo, said that the police were on the trail of other members of the syndicate at large and urged members of the public to report any suspicious movement.


The Police Public Relation Officer in Osun State, DSP Folashade Odoro said the robbers attacked the banks with dynamite and placed explosives in strategic location in the area where the banks are located with the intent to detonate them one after the other to aid the robbery operation.

Men of the police anti-bomb squad were able to identify the explosives and successfully defused them. One of the robbers who sustained bullet injury was arrested by policemen while three member of the gang were also captured as they attempted to flee.

Pastor Kevin Matthews says he is experiencing emotional and mental distress due to her backing down from a verbal contract they had regarding $1.5 million to purchase land to build a retreat facility.
“I had to start taking more medicine for anxiety and depression due to this situation,” says Pastor Kevin Matthews.
According to Matthews, he provided prayer to Holmes and several others at her house and he casually mentioned that he has been praying for land to build a retreat center and he asked the young mother if she would consider helping out. Supposedly they both agreed to the $1.5 million although there was no paperwork or written agreement regarding their conversation.

Holmes’ attorney, Ruth Sheehan has since denied Matthews’ claims.

Gay wedding disrupted in Abuja

The police in Abuja last Saturday February 6th, disrupted a gay wedding between the two men pictured above. The wedding between Abdul Lawal (right) who is supposed to be the husband and Umar Tahir (left) the wife, was supposed to hold at a popular hotel in Jiwa Community of Abuja, King’s Land Hotel in Abuja. Acting on a tip off, the police laid siege at the venue of the wedding.

Guests had already started arriving the venue of their wedding which was well decorated and as soon as the bride and groom, both from Kaduna state, arrived the venue, they were immediately arrested and taken to the Gwagwa Police Station where they were detained.

Eyewitnesses say that other people, including the sponsors of the wedding, chairman of the occasion and the owner of the hotel were also arrested during the raid.

The sponsors of the marriage were named as Abubakar Tahir and Mohammed Sani.
