Femi Adesina writes on the softer side of President Buhari

In an article titled Buhari: Beyond The Iron & Steel, presidential media aide, Femi desina gives an insight into the softer side of President Buhari. Read below...
They were called the unsmiling duo. In his first incarnation as Nigerian leader, the then Major General Muhammadu Buhari was paired with another top brass military officer, Babatunde Idiagbon, who was the number two man. Smile was alien to their lips, laughter a total stranger.
They had a job to do, which was to rid the country of corruption, crime and indiscipline, and anybody who didn't fall in line was liable to being dealt with. And summarily too. Laughter was, therefore, a distraction.

Buhari was reticent, Idiagbon, taciturn. A fearful and fearsome combination. Do the crime, serve the time was their motto. Manifest indiscipline, even in something as pressing as answering the call of nature, urinate by the roadside, and you can't tell anybody it was the work and of the Devil. They would tell you the Devil does not pee. Vandalize public utilities? Twenty years in jail. Traffic in cocaine? Goodbye to the world. Nigeria was being whipped into line, and no mistake. But that nirvana lasted only 20 months, and forces of reaction struck. The regime was toppled.

Along the line, Idiagbon went the way of all flesh. But 30 years later, Providence brought Buhari back to the number one position. Did Nigerians who were of age forget the reticent, ramrod straight man from Daura? No. The mental image they had (and still have) of him, is a man of iron and steel, a new sheriff in town, who whips all malefactors into line. A forbidding man who rarely smiles, and who never enjoys the music of the soul; laughter. Such frivolities are for the flippant and unserious. True? Not so. Yes, there is iron and steel in President Buhari, which makes him able to set his face as flint against the corrupt, no matter who such person is. The iron makes him abhor indiscipline, the steel compels him to crave order and decorum at all times. But is the man all iron and steel? Follow me, as I let you into another vista, another side of the essential Buhari. The human sde, flesh and blood.
By Wednesday, June 1, it would be exactly a year that I started working with the President as his adviser on media and publicity. And I have seen him in many moods: sober, pensive, business-like, and light, yes, easy, jocular mood. This President enjoys good laughter, and, indeed, has a rich sense of humour.
On resumption day, I met the President at Defence House, his temporary outpost, while the Aso Rock presidential villa was being renovated.
"Chief Adesina, welcome," he said, as he exteded his hand to me. We both burst out laughing. Of course, I was no chief. Simply Mr. And the President knew it. He was only pulling my legs.

Having waved me to a seat, the President gave me what can be called the rule of engagement, which would guide my service to him, and to the country.
"Tell me the truth always," he declared. " That is what I want from you. The truth. I may argue with you, you know I am a General, but please argue with me. If your argument is superior, I will bow to it."
And the President has lived up to his word, one year down the road.
On his very first day at Aso Villa, I had approached the President, saying it was necessary for him to visit journalists covering the seat of power at the Press Gallery. He agreed, and strolled from his office a few minutes later. In his first coming, the then General Buhari was not known to be enamoured of the Press. He enacted Decree 4, which was meant to protect public officers against false accusation, and two journalists were actually jailed under the decree.

For President Buhari to then visit journalists in their gallery on the first day at the presidential villa was, therefore, historic. The true democrat was here. After his remarks, soliciting the support of the press men, he shook their hands one after the other, making witty remarks. When Juliana Taiwo Obalonye introduced herself as representing The Sun, the President said:"Warn your cartoonist. Warn your cartoonist. My chin is not as long as he usually draws it." Loud guffaws from everyone.
He had one thing or the other to say about almost all the media houses present. It was an evening of conviviality.

There were two instances when the President exhibited good humour at what could potentially rile someone else. Following his many overseas trips, which have been unjustifiably criticised in the media, there was a cartoon in a newspaper, which said when a country elects a nomadic Fulani as President, how would they expect him to sit in one place? The President laughed and laughed. He even told the story to some people who visited him later in the day.

On another occasion, somebody wrote an opinion piece with the headline: 'When will President Buhari visit Nigeria?' Rib cracking laughter was what it elicited in the President. The writer was insinuating that the President was more abroad than at home, and whenever he came back, it meant he was visiting Nigeria. But since the President knew the purpose behind his foreign trips, he rather laughed off the cheeky newspaper headline.
Have you heard the story of the German sentry? The President loves to tell it. The first occasion I heard him relate the story was when the Peace Committee headed by Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar visited him. Also in the team were people like the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa'ad Abubakar 111, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, and many others. They had come to appeal that the anti- corruption war be waged within the ambit of the rule of law. The President listened patiently, and then responded:
"In the military, there used to be this joke about the German sentry. When a sentry is on duty, and he heard any movement, particularly if it was dark, he barks out. 'Who goes there? Advance to be recognized.' With his gun at the ready, he interrogates the person, and if he tells an acceptable story, he waves the person on. But when the German sentry hears movement in the dark, he lets out a volley of shots, and then shouts:'Who went there?' Of course, he knows he has killed the person."

The President explained that when he came as a military ruler, he was like the German sentry. " I packed all the people who were suspected to be corrupt, and kept them in protective custody. And I told them they were corrupt, until they could prove themselves innocent.
"But now, under a democratic setting, I see corrupt people going around in Rolls Royce, but they remain innocent, until I can prove them guilty."
Of course, the President and his guests laughed heartily.
From time to time, President Buhari grants interviews to television stations at home and abroad. And they have to fit their microphones on his dress. Whenever the interview is concluded, the President would fiddle with the microphone, which had been passed under his dress, and then exclaim:"Can somebody disarm me, please?" For a retired army officer, that is quite creative, and it causes people to laugh.

The President notices everything, even the seemingly insignificant. One day, I was in a Yoruba native dress, with a cap which was rather big for my head, product of a tailor who was too generous with his fabric. When the President saw me, he said:"Adesina, this cap is too big." I was surprised at his attention to details. Or talk of Bayo Omoboriowo, the President's personal photographer. Typical of his young age, Bayo loves multi-coloured socks, which may, or may not rhyme with the colour of his clothing. And he would wear trousers that are several inches above his shoes, thus displaying Joseph's coat of many colours, which his socks are. That has become his trademark. And then comes in Bayo one day, donning sober socks like people of my generation would wear. To our amazement, President Buhari said:"Bayo, you are not wearing multi-coloured socks today. What happened?" General laughter.

In 1985, while he was military head of state, Nigeria won its first Under 17 World Cup title. Thirty years later, under President Buhari, Nigeria won the same laurel again. The day the trophy was handed over to him, the President admired it, turned it from side to side, and then submitted:"Soccer loves me." Really true.

Those who think President Buhari is all iron and steel and nothing else have not experienced what I did in 2013. My mum had passed on, aged 75. We planned a commendation service for her in Lagos, and I had invited a number of people, Gen Buhari included. As I stayed with my siblings at the gate of the hall in Alausa, welcoming people, an SUV drove in. The door opened, and a man alighted. Who was he? "General, you are here! You came all the way from Kaduna!" I exclaimed. And he gave that smile that often makes him look like a child, without guile or trickery. Simple, trusting. He said it was his pleasure to come, and he sat through the Christian service. Didn't some people say he was a religious bigot? Bigotry sure needs to be redefined.

The same thing the President has done this week. Peter Claver Oparah is a dyed-in- the-wool Buhari supporter. His mother died and was buried just yesterday in Imo State. When I told President Buhari that one of his most ardent supporters had lost the mother, he sympathized, did the family a condolence letter, which he personally signed. How very human!
Last Decembr, I told the President that it would be good if he made personal calls to some of his faithful supporters, to wish them a merry Christmas. He agreed. We compiled the names. Rev Moses Iloh. Rev Chris Okotie. Barrister Monday Ubani. Chief Duro Onabule. Gen Sam Momah (retd), and many others. The President spoke with them one after the other, laughing and making them laugh at the other end. Then, he told me to include Dr Tunji Braithwaite in the list. I quickly called journalist and activist, Richard Akinnola, who gave me the man's number. The President and Dr Braithwaite talked for a very long time, and it was mirth all the way. They kept laughing. Unknown to the President, it was a valedictory call. When Braithwaite passed on about two months later, the President told me he was glad he had spoken to him that December night. It was their last conversation.

My sister, Professor Foluke Ogunleye, died in an auto crash last December. The President read of the tragedy in the newspaper, and placed a call to me. He was quite sympathetic. It pacified me a great deal, and reduced my status as a wailing wailer.
Give me a stern President. We need such. But also give me a human and humane President. We equally need such. All these are embodied in Muhammadu Buhari, the man whose footprints would be indellible in the sands of time in Nigeria. He would bring change, and the change would be enduring.

Press Statement: Petition Against Jonathan A Hoax – Metuh’s Counsel

Read the press statement below...
Our attention has been drawn to reports in the media regarding a petition by one Barrister Osuagwu Ugochukwu claiming to be representing a non- existent former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, given as Ikenna Ejezie, and asking the EFCC to invite and interrogate ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on issues relating to the on-going trial of our client, Chief Olisa Metuh.
Whereas we note that Barrister Ugochukwu has links with the EFCC and had appeared on behalf of the commission while representing its former Chairman, Ibrahim Larmode at a hearing in the National Assembly last year, the claim that the petition is on behalf of a former member of Enugu State House of Assembly is false as no such individual ever served in that legislative house.

However, we have thoroughly studied the petition and for the avoidance of doubt, wish to state as follows.

1. The petition is not really against ex-President Jonathan but actually a calculated attempt targeted at swaying public sentiments and the judiciary against our client in this orchestrated and well-funded media trial. The idea is to sway the minds of the public and the court to get a conviction based more on media trial than the laws of the land.

2. It is clear that their assertion is neither based on the statement our client made at the EFCC nor on the evidence placed before the court, which has clearly established our client’s case that the N400 million approved by the former president was not for personal and private use.

3. The fact that this matter is subjudice should have impressed upon the petitioners and their backers that publicizing such hoax is actually an affront to the judiciary except it is intended to cow the judiciary.

4. We are astonished as to how the petitioners would have referred to our client’s statement as a confession and a criminal statement.

5. We are also not unmindful of the fact that this appears to be a vendetta by some persons to cast our client in the mold of an already guilty individual just waiting for sentencing.

6.It is therefore obvious that the sole intention of this petition is to distort our client’s defense, which has so far been honestly and sincerely presented before the court.

 7. Finally, we state that we support the present fight against corruption and which is needed at this time of our national development, however this should not be used by some persons as a ploy to settle personal scores.

Signed: Barr. Ben Nwosu
Counsel to Chief Olisa Metuh

Presidency lists President Buhari’s achievements after first year in office

The presidency has released a list detailing all the achievements of President Buhari in the last one year. He marks one year in office tomorrow May 29th. The list as published by the News Agency of Nigeria contains the following:

SECURITY:
The relocation of the Nigerian Military Command Centre to Maiduguri, since May 2015, contributed to the success in the fight against insurgency in the North Eastern part of the country.
As at February 2016, the total number of persons rescued by the Nigerian troops during the ongoing operations in the North East came to 11,595
Since December 2015, the well-motivated and rejuvenated Nigerian Military have regained all Nigerian territories previously under Boko Haram control.
Prioritized regional cooperation in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency and violent extremism, through the operations of the 8,500 strong Multi-National Joint Task Force in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, currently headed by a Nigeria military general.
Nigeria has provided $21million USD to the Task Force since June 2015 and is committed to an additional $79 million USD, bringing the total of Nigeria’s commitment to the Task Force to 100 million USD.
Cohesive international support in the fight against terrorism and assistance to victims and communities affected by terrorism, following President Buhari’s meeting with G7 leaders and other world powers.
In May 2016, Nigeria hosted a Regional Security Summit to boost military operations against Boko Haram and forge a global support for the rehabilitation of the IDPs and rebuilding of the North East.
In June 2015, the United States announced a 5-million-dollar support for the fight against the terrorists in the sub-region.
In April 2016, during the visit to Ms Samantha Power, the U.S Ambassador to the UN to Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad, the U.S Government further announced an additional $40 million USD for humanitarian assistance in the sub-region
Recruitment of additional 10,000 persons into the Nigeria Police Force is ongoing. The recruitment will address the manpower gap which currently exists in the Nigeria Police
Overhaul of the dysfunctional topmost hierarchy of the Nigerian military which resulted in optimal result and degradation of the Boko Haram elements.
Was able to bring back our hitherto military allies; which saw the United States and UK governments commit their resources to the fight against the insurgents after previously backing out of negotiations with the previous administration. The Israeli government has also indicated interest in the fight against insurgency.
Introduction of the motor cycle battalion (This is so that the Nigerian Army can travel to remote areas that were not accessible to cars/trucks)
Realigned our partnership with regional allies by embarking on foreign visits which resulted in bilateral and multilateral agreements to tackle insecurity back home.
No more roadblocks and curfews, which normally impeded free flow of movement.
Continuous monitoring of activities in the region of war through the use of satellite images and geographical information system is helping in fighting insurgency and strategizing against the enemy.
The trips to our neighbouring countries showed the resolve of the President to push Boko Haram elements out of existence by going for the jugular of the group, cutting their arms, food supply routes. Support has thus been mobilized through the Multinational Joint Task Force.
Another major stride is the Trans National Organized Crime (TNOC) where the president got partnership with regional allies in the fight against the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
As part of the reconfigured military partnership, the United States donated 24 mine-resistant armoured vehicles (MRAP) which had protected the Nigerian troops from the menace of Improvised Explosive Devices. Today we have less causalities.
Reached out to the G7 countries and achieved the following: intelligence sharing; technical military training; arms deals/donations
Overhauling of NIMASA. A reversed policy of the past administration where national infrastructural assets were given to militia leaders to protect as against established bodies like the Nigerian Navy was stopped.
The President Buhari government has drafted the army to partner with other security agencies in ensuring the security of our national infrastructure and this is already yielding the desired results.
A major ring of pipeline vandals in Lagos state were captured recently in a joint operation by security forces led by the army.
The government has renewed its fight against oil bunkering
The Nigerian Navy has recorded tremendous success lately in apprehending vessels used by oil thieves. This operation has improved security on our water ways and it has also helped improve the revenue of government.
Deployment of sophisticated weapons to ensure vandalism is contained by setting up a pipeline security force in stamping out the menace.
Effective Management of the Separatist Biafran Movement
Improving the technical capacity of Nigerian Police Force. We now have a forensic lab and GSM tracking device. We now have a more IT integrated Police force.
Restructuring of Nigerian Immigration to stop cross border crimes.
NSCDC has become more proactive in the prevention of pipeline vandalization, with arrest of several pipeline vandals.
Joint operations involving various security outfits in curbing the menace of the herdsmen in the country has been set up.
The use of surveys and updated mappings across the country as strategies for preventing threats among ethnic groups in Nigeria.
CORRUPTION
Right from the moment he won the Presidential Election in 2015, the impression of the President as a ‘‘no nonsense and incorruptible leader’’ sent a signal to looters of public funds, with many of them returning funds that had been stolen under the previous administration.
To create a frame work for prosecuting the war against corruption and institutionalize probity, President Buhari set up an Advisory Committee on War Against Corruption.
The anti-corruption battle is gaining ground with several high profile cases already in the courts. The administration is being guided by the rule of law in the prosecution of corruption cases.
President Buhari enlisted the support of multilateral institutions like the World Bank and IMF, security agencies, Western countries and other friendly nations to locate and repatriate stolen assets.
At a London summit on anti-corruption, President Buhari announced that Nigeria will begin the full implementation of the principles of the OPEN contracting data standards.
In the first quarter of 2016, President Buhari embarked on trips to the Middle East to sensitize the governments on the need to repatriate stolen assets and hand over the looters for trial in Nigeria. In January, Nigeria and UAE signed Judicial Agreements on Extradition, Transfer of Sentenced Persons, Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters.
In March 2016, the Federal Government and the Swiss Government signed a Letter of Intent On the Restitution of Illegally-Acquired Assets forfeited in Switzerland. Under the agreement, Switzerland will repatriate $ 321 million USD illicitly acquired by the Gen. Sani Abacha family.
In March 2016, the Presidential Committee set up to probe contracts awarded by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from 2011 to 2015 announced the recovery of over N7 billion from indicted companies and individuals.
ECONOMY
Implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) has provided greater visibility of government revenues and cash flows. Between June 2015 and April 2016, the Federal Government TSA collection clocked N3trillion.
To further instill fiscal discipline, President Buhari directed the closure of all multiple accounts in Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, thereby plugging loopholes for leakages with new technology.
The opaque accounting structure of the NNPC has been reconstructed to be more transparent with the closure of more than 40 accounts. As a corporate entity, NNPC is now accountable and more transparent in operations, publishing its monthly financial reports.
The President also resolved the lingering shadowy oil swap deals that had cost the country billions of dollars and left it at the mercy of a few rich Nigerians.
To alleviate the suffering of Nigerians in September 2015, President Buhari directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to disburse N689.5 billion as bailout to 27 states of the federation to pay salaries.
To stimulate the economy and reduce poverty, in April, 2016, President Buhari approved deferment in the payment of the bailout as states were still reeling under the burden of the fall in commodity prices.
Records of more than 34,000 ghost workers draining the nation’s resources were expunged from the Federal Civil Service, saving N2.29 billion monthly.
In 2015, President Buhari ruled out the appointment of a government delegation for pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. By this decision, the government saved about one million U.S dollars and N30m of local expenses
Enforcement of the Bank Verification Number: Also the BVN has ensured that the menace of “ghost workers” are being identified and dealt with, while looters with multiple accounts can no longer hide their loot undetected.
Social Protection: Groundwork for social intervention/palliatives for the poor is being put in place as data is being collated by the economic planning office of the VP in conjunction with the World Bank.
Reorganization/restructuring of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) into a focused, accountable and transparent institution with autonomous Units (Upstream; Downstream, Gas & Power; Refineries; Ventures and lean Group Headquarters)
Reduction of operational deficits in NNPC by over 50% as at March 2016 as a result of Increased Transparency and Commercial focus
Conduct of NNPC outstanding Annual Audits from 2011 to 2014, and the publication of Monthly Financial and Operations Reports to ensure transparency
Introduction of third party financing in order to eliminate direct funding of cash calls by the Federal Government
Renegotiation of existing service contracts under Joint Venture and Production sharing contracts (PSC) Operations by about 30% leading to operational efficiency improvements and cost reductions
Elimination of the Offshore Processing Agreement (OPA) through the introduction of the Direct Sales and Direct Purchase (DSDP) scheme with reputable off-shore refineries thereby yielding annual savings of US$1 billion
Resuscitation of Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna Refineries presently producing about 7 million litres of products per/day
Repair of products pipe lines and the resuscitation of supply of products from Atlas Cove-Mosimi- Ibadan- Ilorin after a six year lull
Repairs of Escravos/ Warri and Bonny/Port Harcourt crude oil pipe lines

Guided deregulation of the downstream sector to allow market forces determine product price and eliminate subsidy payments
Introduction of the initiative on refinery co-location to increase domestic refining capacity and minimize the drain on scarce foreign exchange for product importation
Commenced policy reforms for gas monetization, flare out and infrastructure development, to fast track power supply and economic diversification.

Continuation of the implementation of the Great Green Wall project to fight and contain desertification in Northern Nigeria initiated by past administration.
JUDICIARY
Since assumption of office, President Buhari has maintained a clear stance on the rule of law and respect for separation of
powers.
The President has focused on the strengthening of institutions with key appointment of professionals.
Appointment of 30 new Federal High Court Justices
NATIONAL IMAGE
On assumption of office, the President undertook some foreign trips both within and outside Africa to re-establish Nigeria’s position in the global arena and solicit support for Nigeria and Africa.

Omisore hits back at EFCC, says declaring him wanted was senseless and born out of vendetta

Iyiola Omisore, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, has hit back at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing it as a tool being used against the opposition by the federal government. Mr. Omisore spoke through a statement issued yesterday stressing that the EFCC's decision to declare him wanted was senseless and born out of vendetta. He said:

“I read the statement issued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) purportedly declaring me wanted as an attempt by that organization and its leadership to tarnish my image.
“That statement, if indeed it was issued by the EFCC, is the height of mischief and a deliberate attempt to assassinate my character. It is now very clear that the EFCC is indeed playing out the script of persecuting and harassing perceived opposition groups in the country.
“To be sure, there is no basis for the EFCC’s so-called statement. Only on Tuesday, May 24, we appeared in court with the EFCC asking for permission of the court for an extension of time in the preliminary objection to a suit filed against me. “The Managing Director of Firmex Gill, which the EFCC joined in their case, indemnified me from the company’s contracts and any such obligations.
“In other words, there is nothing related to me in the company’s contract deal with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The company has even sued ONSA for its inability to pay the balance of the contract so awarded to it.
“Therefore, I am not aware of any issue relating to a contract of N700 million. There was no issue of N700 million anywhere. The relationship between the company and ONSA is civil and contractual, which has n nothing to do with me,” Mr. Omisore said in his statement.

Gay man claims that he had an affair with Kris Jenner's boyfriend, Corey Gamble

A gay man wrote to gossip blog ClaimYourShade and claimed he had some kind of a relationship with Kris Jenner's boyfriend, Corey Gamble. Read what he wrote below..
I’m a young black man in my early twenties and I recently moved to Los Angeles from Chicago. Most people would describe me as gay, attractive and sexually appealing. I’m an outside-the-box thinker and heard about gay male escorts making big money in Hollywood. I figured if I put some serious effort into promoting myself, I could get clients in the entertainment industry.

So here’s the story of my encounter with Corey Gamble from Keeping up with the Kardashians. It was 12 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2015. I was hanging out The Nice Guy in West Hollywood with my friend from Chicago. Suddenly, I received a call on my iPhone from an escort agency I had recently signed up for.
The operator tells me I have 30 minutes to make it to the location. She gave me a warning that it was a well-paying client. The location was at the London Luxury Hotel in West Hollywood and the room was a penthouse suite.
I quickly told my best friend I had to go handle some business. I let him know we would catch up before he left back home to Chicago. I arrived at the London Hotel and knocked on the door.
When the door opened I was shocked to see Corey Gamble from Keeping up with the Kardashians standing right in front of me. I walked into the room and asked if anyone else was present. He said a camera was watching my every move.
Corey: “You have to keep this a secret or I will have to take legal action.”
Me: “I promise I won’t tell a soul.”
Corey: “How much do you charge?”
Me: “Before I answer that question, I need you to tell me exactly what you want from me. Be as specific as possible.” Corey: “I want to pay you for [ORAL RELATIONS]. How much will that cost me.”
Me: “$1,500 dollars, in my pocket by the time you [FINISH].”
Corey: “Pull down my pants. I need you to see what I’m working with.” I slowly pulled down his pants and we laid down in the bed. Before it really hit me, I realized I was giving Kris Jenner’s boyfriend an [EXPLICIT ACT].
I was going to get paid to make him feel good and I wasn’t going to turn back. I tried to think about a man I actually have a crush on. I imagined pulling Chris Brown’s pants down and performing [EXPLICIT ACT] on him.
I stroked Corey’s [BODY PART] until he achieved full [EXCITEMENT]. I gave him [EXPLICIT ACT] like a porn-star because I had to pay rent in two weeks. Corey started to moan and eventually [FINISHED].
He handed me $1500 in cash and told me I could leave. I quickly put on my clothes and walked towards the door. Before I could get out, he asked me for my phone number.
I wasn’t going to put Corey on blast until he sent me a video of the favor I did for him. I knew cameras were in his hotel suite, but I didn’t think he would record me giving him head. I asked him to delete the video from his phone and he refused. So now the jokes on him because I have nothing to fear.”

If any other party had won the 2015 election, there would have been no economy to talk about'- Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says if any other political party had won the 2015 general election, there would have been no economy for Nigerians to be talking about now. Lai said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, today May 27.
“For the fact that God loves this country, if any other political party had won the election, there would have been no economy to talk about. They wouldn’t have the courage or discipline to manage the economy” he said

Man commits murder after finding out new Girlfriend is a man!

A 21 year old Texas College football player, Carlton Champion  Jr. met his 24 year old girlfriend and fell quickly in love with her. His new girlfriend was Tyrone Lee underwood who went by the name Tyra. The couple had been chatting for several weeks on a dating mobile app and quickly fell in love but hadn't met each other face to face.

Tyra had a feeling that Champion was cheating on her and decided to end the relationship by text. Because Champion was so in love with Tyra, he sent a text to her apologizing saying he would make it up to her.
Champion was seen on surveillance camera leaving his College dorm at about 2 am.
Tyler Police were called by neighbours who said they heard multiple gun shots in the area and a suspicious vehicle. When Police got there, they found a Toyota Camry off road and a dead black male behind the wheel who had been shot.

Police interviewed Underwood's friends and checked her computer and found out that the last person she chatted with was Champion.

In their investigation, police interviewed Champion's father, Carlton Champion Sr., who "stated that he heard Carlton Jr. was meeting the victim and thought the victim was a female."

Officer Nathan Elliott wrote in the arrest affidavit. "According to Champion Sr., Carlton Jr. was supposed to get some type of sexual favor from the victim but realized the victim was a male."

He was promptly arrested on Thursday and charged with murder.

The campus surveillance video also showed Champion returning to his college dorm just 15 mins after he had initially left, wearing a black leather jacket. The jacket was tested and it came out positive for blood.

He is being held at Smith County jail and his bail has been se for $1million.

Cristiano Ronaldo taunts Barcelona

Cristiano Ronaldo was flattered by Barcelona's Gerard Pique's mimicking when Barca celebrated their La Liga win and has taunted them by saying they always talk about him even when they win.
Pique played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United, winning a Premier League and Champions League double in the 2007-08 season but taunted the Portuguese football star by copying Ronaldo's pose from an infamous post match picture.
When Ronaldo was asked about pique in an interview with La Sezta's Jugones, he said;
' Even when they win a trophy they talk of Cristiano. Right or wrong they think of Cristiano and talk about me, but I have no problem with Pique.

Ronaldo also said that while he was disappointed not to win the European Golden Shoe award, he felt that Luis Suarez was deserving.

The Barcelona striker scored a remarkable 40 league goals for the La Liga champions -- five more than rival Ronaldo, who won the prize last season.
"That is part of it, of course I am frustrated but I wasn't obsessed," he said. "I let things flow this year. Suarez played very well. He scored eight goals in two games. He had an excellent season and he deserved it."

Girl lowered into the grave before and after her twin brother's coffin was put in to prevent bad luck or death

An 11-year-old boy who was allegedly killed by his father to please his stepmother, was buried on Thursday, May 19, in Kagiso, Mogale City, South Africa. As tradition demands, the boy’s twin sister was lowered into the grave before and after his coffin was lowered.
Traditional and community leader Sibangani Khanyile said this was done to prevent bad luck and death from following the living twin.
The boy’s sombre funeral was organised by community members as the whereabouts of their mother’s family is unknown. The community came out in large numbers to say their last goodbyes. The twins are originally from Mpumalanga and were brought to Kagiso, Mogale City by a friend of their mum after she died.
A neighbour said after the twins arrived in Kagiso they were ill-treated by their stepmum, who said she couldn’t accept them because their father had cheated on her with their mum.
At the funeral the boy’s devastated sister was comforted by their mum’s friend, Nomgqibelo Maphanga, who brought them from Mpumalanga.
Nomgqibelo expressed her pain and said she had lost the most free-spirited child she has ever come across. She expressed her appreciation and relief that the funeral arrangements went according to plan.
"My prayer now is that his soul rests in peace," she added.
The boy was killed last Saturday and his body was found on Tuesday. His father has reportedly confessed to killing him. The father has been charged with murder and is still in police custody.

Woman taken to hospital with dead shark attached to her arm

A 23-year-old woman was swimming at a beach at Red Reef Park in Boca Raton with a group of friends when a nurse shark, about 60 centimetres long, latched onto her right forearm on Sunday and bit into it without letting go. According to Boca Raton Fire Rescue, they got a call at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, saying someone had been bitten by a shark.

By the time the fire crew got to the scene, the shark had already been killed by beach goers who were trying to help the woman. The firefighters tried to remove the shark were unable to remove it from the woman's arm.
A spokesperson for the Boca Raton Ocean Rescue told reporters that woman remained calm while she was been held and that there was a little blood. A splint board was used to support the woman's arm and the shark as she lay on the stretcher. She was taken to the hospital with the shark still attached to her arm.
"I have never seen anything like it. Never even heard of anything like this," Boca Raton Ocean Rescue Captain Clint Tracy told the Sun-Sentinel news organisation in Florida.
Nurse sharks have strong jaws filled with tiny, serrated teeth which they use to crush food, including shellfish and coral. They will bite defensively if stepped on or antagonised, but are generally considered harmless to humans.

An 11-year-old boy told the Sun-Sentinel that, before the woman was bitten, he saw a group of people "holding the shark by its tail. They were messing with it."

The woman was taken to Boca Regional Hospital. She was in stable condition.

Exxon Mobil suspends exports from Nigeria due to renewed militant activities

U.S. oil company, Exxon Mobil Corp, says it has suspended exports from Nigeria’s top crude stream due to renewed activities of militants in the Niger Delta region. A statement from the company says it had declared a force majeure – a suspension of deliveries because of events beyond its control – on Nigeria’s Qua Iboe crude oil grade BFO-QUA, and that a portion of production had been curtailed after a drilling rig damaged a pipeline.‎

Only last week, Royal Dutch Shell shut down one of its major pipelines and declared force majeure on Bonny Light crude exports due to renewed militant activities in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. A new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, attacked an oil platform in Delta belonging to Chevron.

Doctors confirm that women can get pregnant by having anal sex

Urologist Dr Brian Steixner revealed that he treated a patient who conceived after having sex with her partner through her rectum. The patient according to Dr. Steixner had a rare condition called 'cloacal malformation' which affects one in 50,000 people. This condition happens when the rectum, vagina and urethra fail to separate into three tubes and bodily fluids drain into one channel.

The woman had an operation when she was younger to fix the problem, but it didn't go according to plan and left a tiny hole connecting her womb to the rectum.

After the surgical disaster, she gave up hope of ever getting pregnant but was left shocked after she found out she was pregnant and admitted her anal escapades to Dr Steixner. She got pregnant because of the hole connecting her womb to her rectum after the surgery.

Dr. Steixner performed X-rays on his patient which confirmed she had gotten pregnant through anal sex. He said:
"We knew about her condition, and we had followed her for a decade. "After doing a whole bunch of X-rays, we determined that she got pregnant from having anal sex."

Domestic violence traceable to dysfunctional family background- Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday identified dysfunctional family background as one of the major reasons for rising cases of domestic violence, just as he advocated the need for parents to imbibe in their wards the virtues of honesty, respect, morality, good neighborliness, peace and love.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the Lagos House at the family day celebration hosted by the State Government in commemoration of the International Family Day, also said a lot of acts of terror and violence that have ruptured global peace and security could be traced to the absence of strong family ties, and as such parents must spend time with their children no matter how difficult it may be.

The Governor described the family as the smallest but most important unit of the society, saying things can only go right in the country if first addressed in the family.

He said: "Most of the recorded incidence of domestic violence are as a result of dysfunctional family backgrounds. Our traditional family cohesion and bond has been weakened due to daily life challenges of trying to make ends meet.
"We must, as a matter of urgency, in spite of the demanding pace of life pause and find time to reconnect with our families. Our families need us; our children need us. The family always provides emotional support in times of need. We have family members in need of emotional, physical and moral support. The support and encouragement given to a family member today can prevent a violent act of terror or suicide tomorrow."
Speaking on the essence of the international celebration which was designated by the United Nations, Governor Ambode said everyone was born into a family and that the most important moments of people's lives have taken place in the family, saying it was for that reason that the international body places a lot of emphasis on the family as a key factor in human relations thereby setting aside May 15 every year to celebrate the value of the family bond across ethnic, religious, social and economic divide.

On the part of the Lagos State Government, Governor Ambode assured that his administration would continue to provide the necessary infrastructural and institutional support for the family, adding that government would soon embark on building of world class Leisure Parks.

He added: "One of the crucial infrastructure that the government has put in place to encourage family bonding is the establishment of Parks and Gardens in various strategic locations across the state. I am happy to note that these facilities have become the convergence point for families to relax not only during festive occasions but also on weekdays and weekends. In addition, this administration has started the process of building new world class leisure parks.
"As we celebrate the international day of the family today, I urge you all to spend more time with your family, especially with our children. A hug or a smilie goes a long way in boosting the morale of family members. If we want to get the society right, we must get the family right. We must start at the family to reintroduce the norms and the values which we grew up with. Our families must must reintroduce and imbibe the virtues of honesty, respect, morality, good neighborliness, peace and love. We must work towards living in harmony with family members and ensuring safety of lives through healthy practices."
Earlier, the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode said without communication, social interaction, love and mutual respect for one another, a family can hardly be united or peaceful.

She said women and children deserved to be respected and pampered, adding that such was needed to avoid domestic violence.

The theme of this year's celebration is 'Families, Healthy Lives And Sustainable Future.'

Some of the dignitaries that graced the event include members of the State Executive council led by Governor Ambode; Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Idiat Oluranti-Adebule; former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Sosan; Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade, among others.

Rescued 13yr old pregnant girl in Akwa Ibom will have a caesarean section operation because her pelvis is not completely developed

Ekemini, the 13-year-old girl pregnant girl (pictured with Hope) who was rescued by Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Loven and her husband David Emmannuel Umem, will be undergoing a caesarean section operation because doctors discovered that the position of her baby in the uterus is not normal. Moreover, her pelvis is not completely developed due to her young age. Anja's post below:

"Last week I told you about Ekemini, a 13 year old pregnant girl whoDavid Emmanuel Umem and our team rescued and brought to DINNødhjælp/ACAEDF Childrens Home in Nigeria.
Since we rescue this beautiful young girl we took her to the hospital for examination.

The doctors discovered that the position of her baby in the uterus is not normal, so she will not be able to deliver her baby vaginally. So next week Thursday Ekemini will have a caesarean section operation. Besides that, because of Ekemini´s very young age her pelvis is not completely developed so if she deliver her baby vaginally the labour might be prolong, and where there is prolong labour complications might set in.

As you also know Hope is also having an operation. Hypospadias is an inborn condition in which one has an incomplete developed urethra. Urethral meatus opens incorrectly at various locations along the underside of the penis, scrotum or in the perineum. The doctors found this inborn condition on Hope.
We have been waiting a very long time for Hope to be operated, but always remember that we are living in an area where the health system is not working as you know it to do in the western world countries.
On the 27 of May our nurse Rose will take Hope to see the doctor for him to make all the necessary tests on Hope that is needed before his hypospadias operation. And after the tests has been made a date for the operation will be arranged.

The caesarean operation of Ekemini and the hypospadias operation of Hope is very expensive so if you want to help us pay for the two operations please make a donation to DINNødhjælp through our website here: http://www.dinnoedhjaelp.dk/stot-os/

24 year old Taoreed Ashimiyu (left) who was recently arrested by the Lagos state police Rapid Response Squad for pick pocketing, says he has spent all his proceeds from pickpocketing on both old and young prostitutes. Taoreed and his accomplice, 34 years old Kayode Jolaade were arrested for stealing of peoples phones at different BRT buses in Maryland and Mile 12 areas of the state.

Taoreed, who hails from Yemetu, Alawada in Oyo state, said that he spent the proceeds from stealing on prostitutes.
“I have not spent a dime from my proceeds in stealing on anything tangible. I womanise a lot and I spent my monies on both young and old ladies. I smoked indian-hemp and drink all sort of hard drinks. My accomplice caused my arrest today. Before he joined me at Maryland, I had stolen two phones successfully. But when he came around, we had to be moving in pair. People who had known him in the area were monitoring us ,unknown to us,” Taoreed said in his confessional statement

62yr old Pastor defiles 7-yr-old pastor’s daughter on church altar in Oyo

62 year old Pastor Isaiah Ojo has been arrested by the Oyo state police command for having sex with the seven-year-old daughter of his friend and fellow pastor, Bidemi (not real name) on the altar of his church, Dayspring Family Chapel situated in the Egbeda area of Ibadan, Oyo state on May 9th.

Tribune reports that the accused was arrested on Thursday, May 12th by Egbeda Division of the Oyo State Police Command.

Narrating her experience in the hands of Daddy Dayspring, as the suspect was popularly called, the victim said

" Daddy Dayspring is my father’s friend. On Monday, my younger brother and I went to greet him. While my brother was playing outside, Daddy Dayspring asked me to lay on the rug.  He laid beside me, removed my underpants and then removed his trousers. He first put his fingers in my private part. He later put his penis in my vagina and I cried. He removed it and blood started coming out. He warned me against telling anyone, saying that I would die if I did. It was when I went outside to urinate that I noticed that blood was coming out of my private part.”she said

Her Father said he had to take his daughter to the hospital when he noticed blood on her pant

“I was not aware of what happened on that Monday because I attended a revival held by Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Egbeda. On Tuesday evening, I overheard her elder brother saying: “tell Mummy”, but I did not pay attention because I thought it was the usual children’s pranks. It was my wife who told me to check my daughter’s private part and when I did, I noticed that her pants were stained with blood. Thinking that something injured her, I quickly rushed her to the healthcentre; but was surprised when I saw that the blood was coming from her private part when the nurses checked her. She was treated and we returned home.  The following day, Wednesday, we noticed that she was still bleeding so we took her back to the health centre. A senior nurse started interrogating her and it was there she revealed that it was my pastor friend who raped her. She said further that the suspect warned her against telling anyone or else she would die. We are both members of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Egbeda branch, and I have informed the leadership.”he said

When interrogated, the suspect, who suddenly started to stammer said
"The little girl and her younger brother used to come to me to play. Her father is a close friend of mine. On Monday May 9, I was in my church premises when she came with her brother. The girl went to lay on the rug on the altar and told her brother that her private part was itching, asking him to come and lay on her. They used to play on the rug before then.
I went near them to ask what was wrong with her. I had to use my hand to help her scratch her private part. After that, the girl said: “Daddy Dayspring, come and lay on me also. When I moved nearer, I could not do anything with her; I did not insert my penis in her vagina. What happened next was that I brought my penis out but I could not penetrate her because her vagina was tight. My intention was to touch her, not to damage her. When I saw that her vagina was very tight, I withdrew my penis and left. There was no blood at that time. I don’t know how blood came out of her.”
When asked when last he had sex with his wife, he said six months ago, adding that it was for health reasons. He denied having sex with the girl for ritual purpose, saying she was young enough to be his granddaughter.

The spokesperson of the Oyo State police command, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the incident and said the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Lady alleges that her little sister was physically abused in school by a male teacher

Facebook User - Olawoore Mariam Olufunmi shared a post two day ago on Facebook, describing how a male teacher at a school in Ifo, Ogun State 'spanked' her little sister. When the girl complained and reported to her parents, another male teacher who's friends with the said teacher, roughly beat and injured her. Mariam went to the school to report and confront the teacher on behalf of her sister, but they argued, exchanging words and she claimed he made an attempt to also hit her. Read what she wrote below..

"There's this teacher in my little sister school called master chidi. During last term, my sister complained he spanked her.. We thought maybe it was a mistake not until yesterday that my sister complained about same thing. Mum was so angry that she wanted to follow her to school, I had to calm her down that she should let me handle the issue. I had to request for few hours from work, on getting there, I was not allowed to see their principal, I saw the so called "master chidi" and he couldn't deny it. We exchanged words and he almost hit me. The principal came outside, took me to his office and apologized that they are going to take necessary actions. I thanked him and left.. About 4:30pm, mum called me that my sister has been beaten by one of their teachers who happened to be master chidi's friend. His reason was why can't my sister tell him before going ahead to tell her mum. Can you imagine that? The school's name is ACCESS MODEL COLLEGE IFO, OGUN STATE.."
Mariam has however given updates on the issue today. According to her,
'the matter is now at Ifo police station. The male teacher ran away when we got to the school with police to arrest him'. Also there are indications that her little sister was not the only one that was abused by the teacher.
